Yvonne Alling has a B.S. in Music Education and M.M. study in piano pedagogy and performance from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. Moving with her husband’s work, she has established seven studios in the last 35 years in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, New Hampshire and now in a second location in South Carolina. Her studios in Pottstown and Scranton, Pennsylvania, had around 100 students enrolled and multiple teachers were contracted so multiple instruments could be studied under her supervision at the studio. Mrs. Alling has been teaching virtually since 2014 and has retained students for as long as 12 years through online study. These remote students continue to participate in Federation, Guild and other competitions and local events.
Mrs. Alling grew up being adjudicated in the American College of Musicians, Guild Auditions. Her teacher, Mary Soper (a Julliard and Curtis alumni) was a great role model. Mrs. Alling is proud to say she has been a student, teacher and judge in this worthy system of assessment. Constantly seeking new opportunities for her students, upon moving to New Hampshire in 2014, Mrs. Alling co-founded the Northern New England National Federation of Music Clubs which now adjudicates students for the Gold Cup Festival in New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont, she continues to be the Festival Chairperson. In addition, she is now the Artist in Residence at the Orangeburg County Fine Arts Center, Orangeburg, SC. Seeing the need for opportunity in Orangeburg, where she instructs over thirty students a week, Mrs. Alling initiated a new Guild Center in collaboration with Claflin University bringing the National Piano Guild to Orangeburg, SC for the first time. She has also been a Guild adjudicator for the last 25 years.
Throughout the years Mrs. Alling’s students performed as finalists or winners of events at: Carnegie Hall Recitals (Weill hall), World Pianist Invitational Finalist at The Kennedy Center (Washington D.C.), Roland RM-700 Corporation Winners (Los Angeles), Los Angeles Young Musicians International Competition Finalist, The University of Rhode Island Piano Extravaganza, Kirby Center in Wilkes Barre, PA, and many others.
